Product Description
Use this cable adapter to connect your Mac with a Mini-DVI video output port to an external monitor, TV, projector or other display device with HDMI input. Plug the Mini-DVI end into your Mac, and connect the HDMI end to an HDMI (male to male) cable, then plug the cable into your HDMI input input jack. Compatible models:12-inch PowerBook G4, Intel-based iMac, the MacBook Intel-based laptop, the Intel-based Xserve, and the 2009 Mac Mini.
Helpful Notes: This device is intended to function more as an adapter than as a cable, meaning its short length WILL NOT reach from your Mac to the monitor. It will need to be used with an HDMI cable (sold separately).
In addition, this adapter works only with Mini-DVI ports, not with Micro-DVI or Mini Display Ports. To quickly check what port you have: this adapter has a U-shaped connector that will match the U-shape found on Mini-DVI ports.
Highest resolution supported: 1920x1200 @60Hz.

Tight fit on late 2007 MacBook September 7, 2010

I got this to use with my late-2007 MacBook. It works fine. The Mini-DVI plug is a pretty tight fit. If I were plugging and unplugging a lot I would probably wish that I had bought the Apple adapter instead - I'm afraid that the mechanical stresses could eventually damage the laptop's mainboard. I only use it occasionally though, so for now I'll stick with it.
As noted by other reviewers, the Apple Mini-DVI port doesn't provide audio. I got a long cable (1/8" TRS to twin RCA) to run from the laptop to my stereo receiver for those times when the computer's speakers don't do the job.

The adapter works wonderfully for picture quality...I can't get the audio to come on with it, but nevertheless, for 5 bucks, what do I expect to do? I may be doing something wrong...I still recommend the product.

I had purchased a new monitor for my Macbook pro and needed to purchase the needed cables. I came across this adaptor (which advertises for apple mac) and purchased it along with and hdmi male-to-male. The adaptor came on the estimated delivery date, however, it did not fit my computer... It will not fit in newer macbooks and macbook pros. I am disappointed that the company did not have the integrity to warn people about this error, and instead leads people to believe that the cable works with all macs. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Macbook Pro does not have Mini-DVI jack. I made the mistake of buying this cable for my Macbook Pro. I thought it's just a mistake on my part and I was going to leave it at that, but given that I see other reviewers who made the same mistake I'll leave this review to warn people who are about to make the same mistake.
If the vendor changes the description to help potential buyers from buying the wrong cable I'll remove this review.

Does a great job in allowing me to display my (non-pro) circa 2007 macbook video on my 40-inch Samsung HDTV (using an HDMI cable to connect the adapter to the TV). Was a little confused about using the mac System Preferences to configure the screen but finally got it working (there were a few preliminary instances of the TV display blinking on and off before I could locate my mouse cursor to complete the setup). I knew beforehand that the connection would not deliver sound to the TV so was not disappointed there. I was able to hook up the sound from the macbook to my stereo receiver using a mini-to-RCA plug adapter (connected to the mac) and RCA cables between that adapter and the receiver (thus while the video was connected digitally, the audio connection was analog, not digital). I had tried an analog connection directly from the mac to the HDTV, and while the connection "worked", it was not loud enough - this is why I resorted to using the stereo receiver and its attached speakers. (I am planning to get a mini to Toslink adapter and toslink cable for a digital audio connection from the mac to the TV, but am concerned that the volume using that method will also be too weak without an amplifier.)
