Very good for the price point June 27, 2010 SR senior I'd been looking for a reasonably priced surround sound system for quite some time. I've owned this system for about four months and I am very satisfied. I now use the system with my satellite music stations and the sound is great. I'm recently purchase a Sony blue ray player to go along with the home theater and highly recommend the combination.
Very basic HT system June 6, 2010 Glenseat I just moved into a new apartment and spent a lot of money buying a 55" inch LED TV. I was looking for a good HT system to go along with my TV. Since I had a tight budget, I didn't look at higher priced systems. Read a lot of good reviews about this HT on Amazon.com. Based on the reviews, this fit perfectly into my budget constraints. But after getting the system, I wish I had spent more money to get a better system. The sound quality is okay. The sound doesn't fill the room the way my friend's Panasonic SC-BT300 does. Also, it has no 3.5mm inlet to plug in the Blackberrys. The digital medial port is a piece of junk. The cradle costs an additional $50 to plug in the iPOD/iPhone. I hate the annoyance of buying a Sony system with all their proprietary junk. If I factor in the additional $50 for the cradle and another $125 for a Blu-ray player, I would have got a better HT system for $400.
Also, the interface on the AV reciever is terrible. Can not see anything it is displaying. A week later after I bought this system, another vendor was offering this for 20% discount. This is one electronic item I have gone wrong after reading reviews from Amazon. I do my research but also give a lot of weight for reviews to decide on the product. This was a bad mistake.
Inferior June 4, 2010 S. Preston (NY) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
This product was terrible. For one, when going through the sound options, the device would not let you play sound through all speakers simultaneously--you only have the option to choose which predefined set you would like to play sound through. Secondly, after ten days the thing started fading in and out, as if it were hiccuping in the middle of a conversation. I lose video and audio for about two seconds, every 10 to 20 seconds.
I always thought of Sony as being the top of the line brand; however, my experience with this inferior product has truly changed my view on this manufacturer. After I return this product, I will likely just use my TV's native sound system. I am going to have to conduct thorough research before I buy another sound system. Sorry Amazon, but it looks like I am going to have to go to the local stores and actually try it out before I buy.
Terrible "product", if you wish to call it that.
works like a charm (owned for 1 month) May 24, 2010 O. Max Williams (hampton roads, va) This is a good product for the price, paid 231 dollars. It's the Sony brand so you know it's quality. For people aren't looking to drop a lot of money on a surround sound system this is the one for you. It has 1000 W so it has power, it has 4 hdmi ports (3inputs 1 output). This allows you to hookup your labtop, ps3, tv to be hooked up all at the same time. It also has a digital optical port, that you can plug your tv or gaming system through. Overall this is a good system to own, it's also nice that it doesnt have a built in dvd/cd player, most people already have a dvd player and dont need that feature, which means there are less things to break and go wrong. For listening to music you can hook your ipod to this system as well, I have not done this, but what I like to do is hook up laptop through the system and listen to Pandora radio.
Excellent Sound but not Versatile May 14, 2010 MDJ (Minnesota, USA) I bought this home theater system to use it with the existing in-wall speaker wire used in my house. I guess I didn't do enough research to determine compatibility. I had listened to the system at a local electronics store and was certainly impressed with the bass and dynamic range of sound. Once I got around to setting it up, I discovered the speaker wire used unique plugs that only work for Sony home theater systems, and therefore I couldn't easily adapt it to the standard 14 gauge wire in the wall. The system uses much thinner wires. I had two choices: splice the plugs onto the current wiring and ruin the Sony wiring or buy a different home theater receiver with a standard wiring hook up. Since splicing the Sony wiring to the existing wiring would degrade the sound performance, I ended up buying a Harmon Kardon receiver and using the Sony speakers. Therefore, if you're setting up a system from scratch with the factory wiring and color-coded plug system, this home theater system works fine. If you're trying to adapt it an existing or different wiring setup, I wouldn't buy this system.
