P.O.S. August 24, 2010 R. Solomon Please, save yourself money and frustration by NOT buying this box. It's been a headache from the beginning. After much trouble setting up, I got it to work for several months. But now, I can only get sound and no picture! I might as well just listen to the radio. I've tried different cables and different antennas so I know that it is this box's fault. Ugh! I would give it zero stars if I could.
Works Fine August 15, 2010 commishkep Works just fine for me, pretty easy to set up, and does the job perfectly.
Scanned station deleted July 1, 2010 Bob I have 2 of these unit and so far they have performed as advertised. There are many features that I would like to see but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
However, there is one "feature" that I can do without. If the broadcasting station goes off the air such as may happen with transmitter issues and you tune to that station, you of course see a signal strength of "0". However, manually selecting this station via the remote later on always results with the "No Signal" banner. What happens is that the converter box DELETES the station from the station listing. By choosing the "Manual" programming option on the main menu you can see if that station is still in the listing. For both of our units on numerous occasions when this particular station transmitter has gone off the air, the station has been deleted from the listing.
I spoke with tech support and they said that indeed, this is how the unit functions and there is no way around it except to re-scan everything after the station is back on the air. This is a problem for momentary transmitter drop outs as by the time you have re-scanned, the show that you were interested in is over.
Seems to me that they could have given a little more thought to this in the initial design.
wow, welcome back to the stone age... June 19, 2010 J. Hopf (Scottsdale, AZ) I can't tell you how big a piece of junk this thing is. Not only is the reception horrible (everytime I shift on the couch I get a signal glitch, if a plane flies over you may as well take a bathroom break cause your signals gone til the plane is, and you have to buy an antennae or there is ZERO reception). The remote has a mind of its own, and there is no other way to interact with the tuner. You push channel up and it might go up, might go down, might change the volume, might not do anything, might read a number... you just can't tell. Then you try and use the remote for your tv or vcr or dvd player and the tuner thinks you are playing with it too... of course there is no telling what your other remotes are going to make it do either.
It runs VERY hot and after a bit less than a year of use it has died completely.
At best it is ready for the landfill, at worst it might set your house on fire
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!!
Piece of crap May 16, 2010 Julia Cove (Chicago, IL) I bought one of these for $[...] when TV switched to digital. It stopped working in less than one year, and I can see from reviews and forums that this is a very common problem. Everything about the product is cheap -- cheap remote, power button issues from the beginning, and died way too soon for a $[...] product. Don't buy an Apex converter. It's a huge rip-off.
