Didn't Work July 26, 2010 The Geek-aplatos The unit put video on my TV but picture quality was very poor and the computer's text nearly illegible. Can be used to watch movies, maybe????
Linux, Mac and Windows friendly too. July 19, 2010 Joe Average (Cookeville, TN) I'm using this so my kids can play games and we can watch streaming TV on from our Mint Linux 8 KDE computer on the TV. IT WORKS! It works fine and well. I had to set the desktop to 800x600 and then VLC adapted the video image to fit hte TV screen just fine. I've played with the Nvidia settings for dualview Monitor+TV but I could not get the settings right in the 20 mins of attempts. Not a fault of this device, just Nvidia's video driver in Linux.
Picture is fine. Looks very good on our 24" TV. I'm sure if I plugged this into a big screen TV then the limits of the video signal would be discovered.
This has worked well with applications like Boxee, XBMC, and VLC and others.
Took me 20 minutes to figure it all out. The instructions are pitiful but then there isn't much to learn about it. I have it disconnected now but could have it up and going again in 3 minutes the next time I want to use it.
It works with any VGA input so Linux, Mac and even Windows (old Windows too) works.
Easy to use July 7, 2010 Dep This product is quite easy to use. I have MacBook Pro and I connected that too my CRT TV using this and mini DVI port to VGA adapter, and the result is awesome.
Now I can watch movies and games online on my TV. It has made my entertainment world quite complete.
does what it says July 6, 2010 dbfloyd 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Pros:
-This product does what it says-Converts PC(vga) to Svideo or composite.
-Watching lower res video translates really well to an older tv(with no digital input)
Cons:
-I do not believe there is a way to save the settings you make--so everytime you boot up you must change them.
-Very Short Cables included
-The VGA OUT(pass through) is not the same quality as the original output.
-The best resolution to use(on my projection tv) is 800x600 which can be challenging for regular computing
Bottom Line: A good idea for older tv's where you want to watch video from your PC--not the best for regular computing display.
Great for watching movies on an older T.V!!! June 25, 2010 Brayzles 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am a student that just finished my freshman year of college. While at school, I filled my 1 tb hard drive with movies and T.V. shows that I could watch over the summer. This converter was just what I needed to send my movies from my laptop to my older 32" t.v. set.
Pros: Great value! Easy to hook up and use right out of the box. Movies look great on the t.v, its no HD, but that's to be expected with an older television and composite video.
Cons: Don't expect to be able to read text on the desktop or on websites without some difficulty. If the resolution of your pc is turned all the way down, you can mildly read the screen, but since I watch movies, this was not an issue.
Overall: Great product for the price. I checked a lot of converter reviews, and this one seemed to be the best! There is no need to bey an expensive $80-$90 converter, THIS ONE WORKS GREAT! Hope this review helps in your decision. :)
