| Customer Reviews: Great sellers, Simple, Easy to install, It WORKS! June 28, 2010 Bertrand R. Trotter (Southern California) Installation of this compact antenna was a breeze. Just a few holes to drill, feed the line into the house (don't forget to caulk the holes) and hook up to TV. Don't forget batteries AND don't forget to program your digital TV for the new channels as I did! I contacted the seller and they were great! They responded to my emails quickly, very understanding without being condescending and offered to help in any way. Wow! This was refreshing and very much appreciated because, as you know, buying the product is only half the purchase; customer support is the other half. Great item, works great...very happy! Thanks for the opportunity to rate this item.
Reliable Reception of DTV signals continues to be pain in the behind. May 4, 2010 Rod Serling (Wisconsin) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've been trying many different antennas to receive DTV signals, from about 40-50 mile range. I have used a Terk outdoor/amplified antenna (that hangs on the Dish500.) Biggest drawback is that it is not positionable.
I found this Quantum FX ANT-104 to be about equal or slightly better reception on most UHF channels, but preferable, due to its rotor/positioning capability. However, it is not very good on VHF channels at all. It can't possibly last outdoors, and should be in the attic.
For its price, I rate it to be a pretty good deal. I wouldn't pay over $30 for it though. It probably works much better in a city location, closer to the broadcast antenna. Don't expect miracles, without spending hundreds, and even then, DTV signals are unreliable, and aren't really ready for primetime in my opinion.
Good but light-weight... January 26, 2010 ~B 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you've been researching antennas you have probably come across some common threads.
Location, size/construction & amplification/reception.
This economical antenna has all the design features you'll want & need to assess if using an antenna in your particular situation/location is worth more time & investment.
Location-Southern California coastal plain, between L.A. & San Diego, at sea-level.
Construction-As was previously noted/reviewed the antenna's construction is very light-weight and would not do well exposed to harsh climates & high wind.
However, everything else is really great, especially for this price ($25-$40 total)!!
It assembles very simply with only four wing-nuts and six small screws.
The ears/loops just fold out & snap into position.
The remote control & built-in rotator are a great feature, especially for a small-size antenna, to help aim/receive/capture more stations.
This is usually an "extra" add-on item/feature with other antennas.
The complete antenna is about the size of a hedge trimmer & very light.
Reception-It has a built-in amplifier that really helps to pull-in the weak, distant stations.
I by-passed the amplifier to note the effect. Major difference!
This is also another "extra" ($$) feature/option with other antenna set-ups.
When the antenna was still laying on the carpet of the ground-floor bedroom I received 6 channels at initial hook-up.
The antenna was then mounted on a 17 ft., 1 inch galvanized pipe. The pipe comes in 10 ft. lengths.
I pounded 1.5 ft. of the 7 ft. pipe into the ground, then "coupled" the 10 ft. pipe to the end and screwed a single-hole strap around the pipe to the patio-cover/roof.
This allows me to "de-couple" the antenna and lower it for storms or maintenance.
I get best reception when pointing North or South-East.
I'm receiving a total of 23 channels of Digital & HD television for free!!
These include all the major networks. Crystal clear.
I was only getting 16 with my Basic cable package!! Bye-bye Cable ($250/yr)!!
This is the best bang-for-the-buck, full-featured, antenna on the market that will allow you to inexpensively assess, for certain, your own particular set of conditions & options for antenna use.
If mounted on a small base inside the attic or only (seasonally) mounted outdoors, the antenna could last decades.
You'd spend more on just "parts" at RadioShack...and many stores don't even stock antennas.
Hope this helps in your research & decision-making.
Enjoy the view!
UPDATE 2/5/10 - Discovered that I needed another TV set-up box (D to A converter) for the other TV/Antenna output. Utilized my favorite shopping resource (Amazon) for "Reviews & Bestseller" data, purchased the top-rated Zinwell converter, installed the unit...50 Channels reception!!
First TV has a TIVAX converter.
Didn't know the set-up boxes could have such dramatic differences in performance...and that there are so many broadcast Channels available!! Lessons learned.
Also note that during cloudy/stormy weather reception drops to about 6 Channels.
Never a free lunch.
Not very good. August 27, 2009 Carl Huth (Mechanicsburg, PA USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Over all this device works only as well as a non-directional antenna. The construction is cheap PVC plastic and aluminum. The prewired 50' cable is of poor quality although it has "High Quality" printed on the sides. The casings are also cheap. Operationally the device works as advertised, but as I said earlier, my old style radioshack antenna works as well.
Given the poor quality, I can't say I would recomend this device.
