not worth to buy April 28, 2010 TVs fan (Maryland, USA) When I pluged it in my TV, I got only 3 digital channels. One of them is spanish channel. It does not worth to buy. I returned this product in the same day. Disappointed. I live in an appartment near washington DC. I thought I should get at least 5-9 local channels.
Translator TV service April 13, 2010 Victor Bobier (S. CA, USA) I bought this RCA 1450 antenna to receive UHF broadcasts from the local TV Translator, It does receive them at 1/4 strength according to the WD-57731 TV of Mine, Some stations are pretty weak, One WGN has bars going through the picture, Two Digital stations do come in, But are so weak that a school bus can kill the reception, Only 3 out of 11 of the stations can be called a strong signal and this is with the transmitters being a scant 3.5 miles away, No stations worth mentioning can be pulled in without an Amp hooked up to an Antenna out here, I'm looking at replacing the amplifier with a Motorola Signal Booster 484095-001-00 Bi-Directional RF Amplifier next month to see If I can boost the signal, Otherwise If that doesn't help I'm looking at a Winegard SS-1000 SquareShooter Antenna to go along with the Motorola Amp as the SS-1000 is not Amplified, Plus some Channel Master CM-3709 RG6 Coaxial Cable (50 Feet, Black)(low loss, That one is an example). All the stations out here are 480i still(Digital or not), So I can't tell If 1080i or 720p would work with this RCA product and they may not as It's pretty weak when laying nearly flat, The signals almost disappear when propped up or hung on a wall though.
I should have listened to the poor reviews September 7, 2009 D. Wilson (Akron, OH) Made no improvement compared to my regular non-digital antenna, lost a channel or two, not worth the money. I will give it to someone who desperately need an antenna since it is too late to send it back, but I will not recommend it for you.
Do not be like me and think it will work for you despite the poor review warnings, or figure your location may make a big difference. If it is a good product, it will work anywhere except for some rare remote locations because good products are thoroughly tested.
NOW I know. Where was all of this wisdom BEFORE I wasted my money?
BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! August 31, 2009 F. Malles (CHICAGO) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Recieved my 1450 Antenna today in the mail. Excited to see the results, Opened the box, only to find a flimsy coax cable and connector. The bar that's supposed to fit in the back of the antenna, so it can stand up. Well that does not fit, it just falls out. As for channels I lost more than I gained. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! NEVER NEVER AGAIN WILL I ORDER FROM THIS WEB SITE........ Hooked up the amplifier, DOES NOT WORK.... No Gain, Nada, Zero, A Big flat Nothing...... Buy at your own discretion, your better off going to a BIG BOX STORE.......At least you can return it without any HASSLES.............THIS ANTENNA IS GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Took a chance on this, and was pleasantly surprised July 22, 2009 GBill (Lowell, MA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When it comes to reviewing a TV antenna, SO much depends on geographical location. I live in New England about 40 miles north of Boston. The TV for this antenna is located on the third floor of a typical NE row house. I had been using a very basic pair of RCA rabbit ears, and was getting decent reception via my Insignia converter box. But I started looking for a new antenna because (a) it seemed that any change in the weather affected reception and (b) one of the connections on the UHF loop was broken. Another consideration was that when I had to reposition the rabbit ears to get best reception, the ears wound up in a traffic area. (And let's face it, rabbit ears just look cheesy.)
Most of the stations in my area are between 20 and 30 miles away. So I was looking to try an amplified antenna. I was intrigued when I saw the RCA ANT1450. I bought it, thinking I could always return it if it didn't work.
I was very pleasantly surprised when I hooked it up. It took me a few tries to figure out the best place to put it, but one of the nice things about the Insignia box is the signal strength meter. It turns out that the ANT1450 wanted to be located in a different place than the rabbit ears (about 3 feet away). I was also surprised to find that the ANT1450 really did work best when laid flat (horizontal), and definitely not on a metal surface. The ANT1450 now picks up the same number of channels as the rabbit ears, but with consistently better signal strength. I have the amplifier connected, but don't know if it's completely necessary.
And I really like not having those ugly rabbit ears any more!
